The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) Review
Finally I watched my favorite "Catching Fire", one of Suzanne Collin's The Hunger Games trilogy novel. It's really worth to watch on the first day of movie released in Indonesia :') The best sequel that ever made.
Genre: Action & Adventure, Fiction
Running Time: 2 1/2 hours
Release Date: 21st November 2013 (Indonesia)
a brief storyline
After winning in 74th Annual Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta (once again) must compete to the death with another previous victor in 75th Annual Hunger Games (Quarter Quell).
Gale Hawthorne: People are looking to you, Katniss. You've given them an opportunity. They just have to be brave enough to take it.
a fair review
I can say Francis Lawrence (the new director replaces Gary Ross), Michael Arndt & Simon Beaufoy (the cool scripwriters), successfully makes The Hunger Games' fans going home with such a big smile. Why?
- Once again and again, Catching Fire is so faithful to the book. Yeah, I know, everyone have said that before, but it's true. I love how the storyline and the dialogue is nearly similar with the novel. The main plot is still there in the movie although some scenes in the novel are gone.
- District's (brewing) revolution, the character's emotion (especially Katniss), the Capitol's eccentric are all successfully and well presented on this movie. Perfect!
I must admit Jennifer Lawrence is the best Katnis Everdeen, she can portray Katniss Everdeen perfectly. Her emotion, her trauma, her undecisive love, her bravery, all are absolutely package on the presence of Jennifer Lawrence. Am I too much praising on her? I am her biggest fan, forgive me readers, hahaha.
And finally, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, both have an equal portion to show up new level of their missing character in the first film. Who's there happy to see Liam gets more scenes than before? For some newcomers to this movie like Sam Claflin and Jena Malone, they both did a great job. But unfortunately, Sam Claflin as Finnick isn't really charming in my eyes like in the novel. On the contrary, Jena Malone as Johanna is really effin' awesome ! From the beginning she appears, her sassiness makes me fall in love (more) with Johanna's character. Stanley Tucci as usual always be my favorite host in this earth, hahahaha.
- Peeta Mellark: If you die and I live, there's no life for me at all back in District 12. You're my whole life. I would never be happy again.
For the set design and costumes, what I can only say is they are really AH-MAA-ZING ! I love all Katniss & Effie's dress. For visual or special effect, Catching Fire is really stepping up from the first movie. When the effect is needed, it is very well presented. The game arena is actually precise with the novel. I really can feel how the poisonous fog, monkey, jabberjay, and other elements in the arena affect all tributes. Last, eventhough I didn't really see much action scenes & bloodyshed everywhere, but much kissing scenes (ups), I still enjoyed watching Catching Fire.
a brief closure
Just one word.
RECOMMENDED !
You'll leave the theater satisfied. The movie will left you with many question to the next sequel.
Get ready for Mockingjay next year.
Rating : 8,8/10
CAN'T AGREE MORE!
ReplyDeleteI love this movie too much too, I think this is the best novel-to-movie adaption since ever. It shocked me because they're very similar, both novel and movie. Awesome!
And yet again I really love effie's looks. Unfortunately I agree with Finnick's cast too, to me he looks too old, no?
Hope Mockingjay will be more awesome ;)
cheers!

That's right, it's like seeing the novel becomes real, hehehe.
DeleteAlways ! Effie is always incredible. And for Finnick, maybe yes he looks too old, so that's why Finnick's character lost his charming as an Aquaman.
I hope so. May the odds be ever in your favor ! :D
Thanks Irene for coming
I am very interested in finding out the end of Peeta and Katniss's love story. Although I haven't read the books nor have I watched the sequel. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Peeta and Katniss's love story is really beautiful, not in the movie, but in the novel. You should read the novel then ;)
DeleteI first read the book in 2009 so I cant remember anything from it, and that caused me to love the movie! MUAHAHAHA! It's awesome! Katniss' almost wedding gown is so beautiful :D
ReplyDeleteYeah, the movie is still perfect eventhough you forget about the detail in novel, hehehe.
DeleteI do amazed with Katniss' wedding gown. It's really really beautiful, I agree :D
